For His Glory: Cape Town February 2019

Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!

We arrived safe and sound very late Thursday evening and got a few hours of sleep before beginning a whirlwind of activity on Friday. Before we started on our to-do lists, we paused for a lovely breakfast at our favorite bakery situated beside our hotel, called Knead.

Each morning one of the team members gives a short devotional before we embark on the day’s journey. On Friday, Linda Yorio shared a devotional. She entitled it Dee’s Masterpiece. The message of the morning was a perfect way to begin our time of ministry here in Cape Town and as you read further, you will understand why. Enjoy and remember, you are a piece of God’s overall masterpiece. Work your part of the pattern so you can impact the Kingdom for God’s glory.

Dee’s Masterpiece

By Linda Yorio

My friend Dee does handwork. Recently she had posted a picture on Facebook of a needlepoint she was working. It seemed incomplete in the photo, so I asked her about it. Here’s what she told me:

Pieces are mailed to her at different times.

She doesn’t know what she’s getting until it comes in the mail.

She works each piece as she receives it.

Some pieces take longer to work than others.

She won’t know what the pattern will look like until it is finished and all the pieces are in place.

When I heard about Dee’s handwork, I thought of our lives. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, or masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, so that we would walk in them.” Did you hear that? We are God’s masterpiece! Psalm 139:16 says, “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” That tells me that before I was born, God had planned every day that I would live. He has the pattern for my life. Like Dee’s handwork, we receive pieces of the plan for our lives at different times, we don’t know what the overall pattern is, we don’t know what pieces we will get–pieces come when they come. Some pieces are easy pieces, some are hard, but they are all part of the overall pattern that God planned for us before we were born.

It is important to work each piece as it comes. Whether you like a piece or not, it must be worked to completion. It may seem overwhelming at times, but God gives us grace to complete the pattern and He fills in what we can’t do on our own.

As we start this time in Cape Town, we’ve all received a new piece of our pattern. We don’t know what it’s going to look like yet, but when it’s completed, it will be part of the pattern of our lives. We are God’s masterpieces and we must work each piece as He gives it to us. Let’s all make this piece a beautiful part of the overall patterns of our lives, and by doing so, the pieces of others’ lives will be impacted to help create the masterpiece God has for them.

For His Glory,

Team Cape Town, 2019

Love this devotional. This is a lesson we forget regularly. God does not give us the entire picture all at once. Praise Him! Praying for all of you to see what is in front of you and do your part for His glory.
